Poetry Pals

Run by our AD, Heather Ward in association with www.heatherwardpoetry.com

A weekly poetry group that meets to share, hone their craft and be inspired by new themes and prompts.

Like everything, writing is a commitment to the practice and to ourselves that we make to get better and share our art with the world. A lot of us have been the secret poet with a draw full of scribbles on bits of paper or years of words written in a notes app that no one ever sees. Now is the time to change that. Creating is one thing, but taking the step to share is another, and that's why this group is important for you - it will be designed to give you the space, platform and community to grow in confidence and give and receive feedback from other poets on the journey with you.

£60 a month (£15 per session) and each month a new theme.

Workshops take place online. Events in person.

What You'll Get
  • Your unique space to meet once a week online with other poetry pals.
  • 1/1.5 hours (depending on size of group) of your time to respond to prompts and write poetry as well as share 1-2 other pieces you have written in your own time and receive feedback if wanted.
  • Workshops alternate monthly between Tuesday evenings 6pm - 7pm and Sunday mornings 10am - 11am. Different times of day inspire different moods and energies!
  • Matched with a 'poetry pal' each week to share any poems you have written that week outside of workshop times.
  • Safe space - poetry and ideas/work shared is held within a non-judgemental environment, where free expression and personal stories revealed in the poetry are shared, with the understanding that this is kept within the group.
  • Applying skills learnt for the stage, Poetry Pals will encourage a space where writers consider the impact on their audience and story-telling within their poetry, as well as freedom of expression.
  • Quarterly poetry reading night organised to perform work live, produced in London by experienced producer Heather Ward (poets must have taken part in at least 3 months of the journey of Poetry Pals and will have a built a selection of work during this time). Poems can be performed by the poet themselves, or someone else within the community on their behalf.
